Abstract
The taxonomy of five species of fresh-water crabs from West Africa bel onging to the Gecarcin-ucidae is revised. Globonautes monodosus Bott, 1959, and G. leonensis Cumberlidge, 1987, are removed from Globonautes Bott, 1959, and included in Afrithelphusa Bott, 1969. The two genera are revised and distinguished by characters of gonopods 1 and 2, and o f the carapace. Two other species, Afrithelphusa gerhildae Bott, 1969, and A. afzelii (Colosi, 1924), are also redescribed. Keys to the gene ra and species of the West African gecarcinucids are provided.
