The influence of Gd oil electric properties and magnetic susceptibilit
y (MS) of crystals PbSe grown in the melt by Bridgman's method and dop
ed by Gd during the growth process is investigated. It is shown that G
d in PbSe behaves like a donor impurity which can force the crystal Pb
Se to be in a paramagnetic state for its concentration in the range of
5 . 10(18) - 9 . 10(19) cm(-3). The component of MS owing to Gd is sp
ecified. For the majority of samples it is well described by Curie's l
aw chi(Gd) = C/T in the temperature range of 70 - 300 K though some sa
mples reveal essential violations of tills law. On the basis of experi
mental values of constants C the concentration of Gd in the samples is
estimated, being correlated with the concentration of free electrons.
Some conclusions about a segregation coefficient of Gd in PbSe are dr
awn.
