Objective: To present a case of spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia (SED) tar
da in a 14-yr-old boy. Clinical Features: The patient suffered from ch
ronic bilateral hip pain and range of movement was decreased. Radiogra
phic examination showed findings consistent with skeletal dysplasia ta
rda. Intervention and Outcome: The patient was given specific stretchi
ng exercises and encouragement to stay active. Physiotherapy was provi
ded to strengthen the hip adductor muscles. Conclusion: The presence o
f short stature, symmetrical hip dysplasia and abnormal vertebral bodi
es should raise the suspicion of a skeletal dysplasia, specifically sp
ondyloepiphyseal dysplasia.
