S. Vladov et al., OCCURRENCE OF THE LARGE AMERICAN LIVER FL UKE (FASCIOLOIDES MAGNA) OFTHE DEER IN HUNGARY, Magyar allatorvosok lapja, 50(3), 1995, pp. 157-159
Occurrence of the large liver fluke of North-American origin (Fasciolo
ides magna), living in the liver of Cervidae, was observed in red deer
s of Szigetkoz (an island of Danube in the plain in North-western of H
ungary). In a single deer liver sent for laboratory investigations, 10
almost adult flukes were found which could originate from a single, s
imultaneous infestation. Of the 10 flukes, only one could be considere
d adult (Figure 4). Measuring data of the 10 flukes are shown in a Tab
le. Of randomly collected 15 deer faecal samples, 11 contained Fasciol
oides ova. Based on this finding, the fluke seems to be wide-spread in
the Szigetkoz. Gross-pathological alterations caused by this parasite
have been reported (Figs 1, 2, and 3) touching also the epidemiologic
al relations of the infestation.
