A variation of the Gomori trichrome stain has been developed to emphas
ize the morphology of gross specimens. The stain results in good contr
ast among various kinds of tissue. The tissue distortion associated wi
th paraffin embedding and microtome sectioning is avoided. The stain h
as been used on full-thickness sections of human abdominal wall to pro
duce differences in coloration of fat, muscle, and connective tissue f
or subsequent scanning and analysis by computer.
