Abstract
In the present work the variety of a simple alloy system is exemplaril y shown for Al-Si based alloys. Prerequisite is the understanding of t he relation between microstructure and properties. Several fields of a pplication, each one requiring different materials properties, con be developed by alloy modification and by using different processing.
