A simple semiclassical model for fast estimations of outer- and inner-
subshell ionization energies of atoms and ions is presented. The energ
ies are calculated from the quantization condition with analytical pot
ential. The quantum defect approximation for Rydberg states is develop
ed and the relativistic correction is derived. Comparisons with experi
mental data and more accurate numerical calculations are made. The acc
uracy of the model is found to be comparable with that of the Hartree-
Fock-Slater approximation.
