We suggest the term, 'anorexie a deux', for the pathological relations
hip that exists between the anorexic child and her anorexic mother. Re
ference to the family structure and eating pathology and difficulties
in treatment are illustrated by eight case histories. Anorexie a deux
presents a treatment and management challenge for the future, particul
arly now that the 'Twiggy' generation have grown up to become the moth
ers of today's adolescents.
