G. Scarchilli et al., WEATHER RADAR CALIBRATION BY MEANS OF THE METALLIC SPHERE AND MULTIPARAMETER RADAR MEASUREMENTS, Nuovo cimento della Societa italiana di fisica. C, Geophysics and space physics, 18(1), 1995, pp. 57-70
Absolute calibration is an important task in order to obtain reliable
and accurate measurements of radar observables and derived meteorologi
cal parameters. In this paper two procedures are described; the first
one is based on measuring the power received from a metallic sphere an
d the second utilizes the rainfall estimates obtained by the multipara
meter radar measurements. The accuracy of the latter method is studied
in detail from the simulation of the dual polarization measurables. T
he theoretical results are compared with radar measurements relative t
o a rain event.
