Abstract
Second (p, V, T) virial coefficients B(T) of xenon and chlorine have b een obtained from refractive index measurements over the temperature r ange 290-1100 K. For both substances B(T) was determined for the first time at T > 650 K. Below 650 K B(T) of xenon is in very good agreemen t with tabulated values. For chlorine, however, substantial disagreeme nt was found between our values and previously reported measurements o f B(T).
