Abstract
Seven new triterpenoid saponins were isolated from the seeds of Amaran thus caudatus (Amaran-thaceae). Their structures were elucidated on th e basis of spectral and chemical data to be (1) 3-beta-O-alpha-L-rhamn opyranosyl-( 1-->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-2 beta, 3 beta-dihydroxyolea n-12-en-28-oic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester; (2) ranosyl-(1-- >2)-6-O-methyl-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-2 beta,3 beta-dihydroxyolean-12-e n-28-oic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester; (3) 3-beta-O-alpha-L-r hamnopyranosyl- (1-->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-2 beta,3 beta-dihydroxy- 23-oxoolean-12-en-28-oic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester; (4) -L -rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-2 beta,3 beta,6 alpha-t rihydroxy-23-oxoolean-12-en-28-oic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl est er; (5) 2 beta,3 beta-dihydroxy-30-norolean-12,20(29)-diene- 23,28-dio ic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester; (6) 2 beta,3 -dihydroxy-30-n orolean-12,20(29)-diene-23,28-dioic acid 23,28-di-O-beta-D-glucopyrano syl ester; (7) 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-2 beta,3 -dihydroxy-30-norole an-12,20(29)-diene-23,28-dioic acid 23,28-di-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl e ster.
