Yf. Alobaid, THE EFFECT OF SHOT PEENING ON STRESS-CORROSION CRACKING BEHAVIOR OF 2205-DUPLEX STAINLESS-STEEL, Engineering fracture mechanics, 51(1), 1995, pp. 19
In this paper an attempt has been made to study the effect of shot pee
ning on stress corrosion cracking of 2205-Duplex stainless steel. Cast
steel shot was selected to be the peening media. Specimens of 2205-Du
plex stainless steel were tested in the peened and unpeened condition.
Quantitative data of hours to failure were recorded for tests on spec
imens stressed to various percentages of yield strength in corrosion a
queous solutions. The residual compressive stress caused by shot peeni
ng with different shot sizes on the surface was measured by X-ray meth
od. Tests of 2205-Duplex stainless steel showed that shot peening is e
ffective in retarding stress corrosion cracking in the material studie
