Abstract
This payer describes a vertical section Ti-275.Al up to 25 at% Nb in t he ternary Ti-Al-Nb system. This section is shown to be of fundamental importance in understanding the origin and relationship between the v arious phases which constitute the microstructures of an important cla ss of engineering alloys based on the Ti3Al-Nb system, the alpha(2), B 2 and O phases. In carrying out this work, the presence of two distinc t forms of the O phase with the same space group and lattice periodici ty, but different site occupations, has been confirmed.
