A series of ruthenium(II) mixed-ligand complexes containing 2(1H)-pyri
dinethione (C5H5NS) or 1-hydroxypyridine-2-thione (C5H5NOS) and bis(di
phenylphosphino) alkanes, Ph(2)P(CH2)(m)PPh(2) (m = 1-4), and a triter
tiaryphosphine, (Ph(2)PCH(2)CH(2))(2)PPh (triphos), of stoichiometry:
RuA(2)L (HA = C5H5NS or C5H5NOS; L = a di- or tri-tertiary phosphine)
have been prepared. The complexes were obtained by the reactions of (i
) RuL(n)Cl(2) [n = 2 for L (m = 1, 3) or n = 1.5 for L (m = 4)] with H
A ligands in the presence of triethylamine, (ii) RuA(2)(PPh(3))(2) wit
h L (m = 2; triphos; HA = C5H5NS), or (iii) RuCl2(PPh(3))(3) with C5H5
NOS and L (m = 2; triphos) in the presence of triethylamine and charac
terized using analytical data, IR, far-IR, UV-vis, H-1 and C-13 NMR, a
nd cyclic voltammetry. The geometry about Ru-II is distorted octahedra
l with S-Ru-S in the bent trans-configuration (S-Ru-S, ca 155 degrees)
, with phosphines occupying cis-positions.
