Md. Mathew et al., INFLUENCE OF STRESS ON MICROSTRUCTURAL STABILITY OF TYPE-316 STAINLESS-STEEL WELD METAL, Materials science and technology, 10(12), 1994, pp. 1104-1108
The influence of stress on the microstructural stability of type 316 s
tainless steel weld metal at high temperatures has been examined using
the gauge section and shoulder region of creep specimens treated at 8
23, 873, and 923 K. M(23)C(6) carbide and the intermetallic phase sigm
a have been observed in optical metallography and X-ray diffraction an
alysis of the extracted precipitates. The amount of precipitation in t
he gauge section was generally found to be more than to be more that i
n the shoulder region. The application of stress was seen to enhance t
he precipitation kinetics of the sigma phase.
