Uj. Gorke et H. Gunther, NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS FOR THE DESIGN OF ELASTOMERCOATED ROLLS, Kautschuk und Gummi, Kunststoffe, 48(3), 1995, pp. 185-188
Elastomer coated roils play an important role in various technical bra
nches. The high stresses in the elastomeric layer and their partial fa
ilure lead not only to insufficient quality of She production process,
but can also frequently destroy the whole rolling system completely T
his article describes the mechanical behaviour of a two-roll system. N
umerical and experimental methods are utilized in order to establish a
n engineering approach for the design of such systems. The various sta
ges of a design procedure will be presented which allows to determine
the pa rameters important for the performance of this system, e. g. ni
p width or nip pressure, taking into account the geometrical and physi
cal nonlinearities of the material behaviour The design procedure is e
xplained using the example of a specific roll pairing. The numerical a
nd analytical results are verified by experiments.
