The grades of zinc oxide predominantly used in the rubber industry are
produced in a number of differing furnace systems using secondary zin
c as well as primary zinc for raw materials. The furnace systems are c
ontrolled within guidance parameters which themselves are determined a
s a result of chemical analysis carried out during the process. With s
econdary raw materials a 100 % check on incoming materials is often in
dispensable. In the WdK guideline 1204, ''Zinc Oxide/Zinc White'', all
the parameters relevant to the quality of zinc oxide are listed. This
has become the basis of many specifications and has made a significan
t contribution in reducing the number of parameters to be checked. Wit
h critical examination of the guideline a further reduction in the cha
racteristic parameters could be achieved.
