We show that in one conservation laws, the disturbances are propagated
along the characteristic lines and shocks. We use this to investigate
the macroscopic behavior of the second class particles in stochastic
models such as asymmetric simple exclusion and zero range processes, i
n one space dimension. We show that a second class particle will follo
w the characteristic lines and shocks of the hydrodynamic equation.
