Abstract
An experiment was conducted during rainy season of 1987 and 1988 to st udy the nutrient-uptake pattern and change in the soil fertility statu s under summer groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.)-rainy-season pearlmille t [Penniserum glaucum (L.) R. Br. emend. Stuntz] crop sequence. Nitrog en had direct as well as residual effect on NPK uptake by both the cro ps. Direct effect of P application was noticed for NPK uptake by both the crops, whereas its residual effect was found significant only for P uptake by pearlmillet. The total N showed positive balance at high-f ertility level, whereas available P and K showed negative balance in t he soil after 2-year cycle. Both the crops responded well to N and P. The residual effect of N was observed in pearlmillet crop.
