Abstract
This paper proposes an automatic protocol recognition scheme for devic es which can handle multiple wireless protocols using infrared. The au tomatic protocol recognition scheme is realized by switching protocols periodically, observing existing MAC (Media Access Control) rules. Th e technique is applied to recognize two exsisting communication protoc ols using infrared; one is used for PDAs and electronic organizers and the other is a new industrial standard defined at IrDA (Infrared Data Association). This paper also presents the evaluation result.
