T. Jindo et al., DEVELOPMENT OF A DESIGN SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR OFFICE CHAIRS USING 3-D GRAPHICS, International journal of industrial ergonomics, 15(1), 1995, pp. 49-62
This paper describes the research and development work done on a desig
n support system intended for use as a support tool in designing offic
e chairs. Subjective evaluations were conducted using the semantic dif
ferential (SD) method to examine the relationship between users' perso
nal assessments of office chairs and design elements. The results obta
ined were then quantified by means of multivariate analysis and incorp
orated in a database. As a result, this system can indicate the design
elements needed to create a given chair design. A chair design is out
put in a graphical representation in response to an adjective input. B
ecause the graphical representation is composed of 3-D data, it is pos
sible to display the design from any desired perspective and also perf
orm shading and other operations.
