The partial pressures of AE(g), Ag-2(g), Te(g), Te-2(g), AgTe(g) and A
g2Te(g) have been measured by Knudsen effusion cell mass spectrometry
(KEMS) in the temperature range 1073 to 1319 Ii over the biphasic fiel
d (Ag(s) + Ag2Te(s)). Knudsen effusion mass loss experiments over the
biphasic field, Ag(s) + Ag2Te(s), was also carried out in the temperat
ure range 1088 to 1246 K to understand the vaporization behaviour. Ove
r the biphasic field Ag(s)+ Ag2Te(s), the vapour consisted of Te-2(g)
and Te(g). Te(g) bring present to the extent of 50% and small concentr
ations of Ag(g), Ag-2(g), AgTe(g) and Ag2Te(g) species were also found
. Though the presence of Ag2Te(g) in the vapour phase was reported in;
he Literature, the present work reports for the first time the tempera
ture dependence of partial pressures of Ag2Te(g) species over a large
temperature range.
