A new theory of nucleate pool boiling based on turbulence in the bound
ary layer induced by bubble growth and departure is presented that inc
orporates the effect of the static contact angle and explains the larg
e spread in the available experimental data. In addition, an exciting
feature of the new theory is demonstrated that has not, to the author'
s knowledge, been reported previously in the literature-its ability to
predict the critical heat flux with the same correlation.
