Xp. Gan et Sa. Macgregor, EXPERIMENTAL-STUDY OF THE FLOW IN THE CAVITY BETWEEN ROTATING-DISKS, Experimental thermal and fluid science, 10(3), 1995, pp. 379-387
An experimental investigation using laser-Doppler anemometry was condu
cted in the cavity between rotating disks. Measurements of velocity we
re taken for rotor-stator and counterrotating disk flows. Batchelor-ty
pe flow was observed for the rotor-stator flow, and Stewartson-type fl
ow in the counterrotating disk system. The core flow of the counterrot
ating disks is turbulent for x(2) Re-phi as low as 2.16 X 10(4), but t
he boundary layer how remains laminar for x(2) Re-phi less than or equ
al to 1.1 X 10(5). The velocity measurements show good agreement with
previously published hot-wire anemometry measurements and theoretical
predictions.
