A method for labeling of porcine platelets with Indium-lll oxine (8-hy
droxyquinoline) is described, Mean labeling efficiency was 78.8% (+/-
8.8%, SD), platelet function remained intact as measured by aggregomet
ry in response to acid citrate dextrose, and the procedure took an ave
rage of 159 min (2 h, 39 min), including considerable walking distance
s in the laboratory. A short listing of other methods for labeling of
porcine platelets and platelets from other animal species is included.
The described method is easy to perform, has a constantly high labeli
ng efficiency, and is no more time-consuming than other methods.
