In a case of ulcerative colitis where the clinical features resembled
dermatitis herpetiformis, IgA autoantibodies against the itercellular
spaces of the epidermis and the basement membrane zone (BMZ), an IgG a
utoantibodies against the BMZ were demonstrated by indirect immunofluo
rescence study. Dapsone therapy was shown to be very effective on the
skin lesions and on the intestinal symptoms, which included bloody sto
ols, severe diarrhea and abdominal pain.
