J. Garciasilva et al., SWEETS-SYNDROME END ERYTHEMA-NODOSUM IN A PATIENT WITH POSITIVE SEROLOGY FOR BORRELIA-BURGDORFERI, EJD. European journal of dermatology, 5(2), 1995, pp. 135-138
This work reported on the case of a 32-year-old man who developed a cl
inical picture of high fever, general malaise, arthromyalgia, conjunct
ivitis, painful erythematous plaques on his neck and painful nodular l
esions on his legs after a tick bite. Analysis of peripheral blood rev
ealed neutrophilic leukocytosis and an increase in acute phase reagent
s. High titres of anti-Borrelia burgdorferi IgM were found. Biopsy of
one of the nodular lesions of the patient's legs was characteristic of
erythema nodosum. Biopsy of one of the lesions on the patient's legs
was characteristic of erythema nodosum. Biopsy of one of the lesions o
n the patient's neck disclosed oedema in the papillary dermis and an i
nflammatory infiltrate of mononuclear cells with nuclear dust but with
no predominance of neutrophile leukocytes. The process, which did not
respond to treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory agents, r
emitted dramatically after oral treatment with potassium iodide.
