A 78-year-old woman had a 3 years history of a plaque-like lesion meas
uring 2.5 cm in diameter an her left lumbar region. On histological ex
amination the lesion consisted of anastomosing strands of cuboidal cel
ls with sweat duct lumina within them, embedded in a fibrovascular str
oma. A diagnosis of solitary eccrine syringofibroadenoma (ESFA) was ma
de. The authors discuss the nosographical position of this lesion. The
single lesion may represent the tumoral form of ESFA on the other han
d, multiple and associated lesions may be a sporadic hamartomatous con
ditions.
