A method is proposed for extractive spectrophotometric determination o
f copper(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) using trifluoroacetylacetone (
TFAA) in combination with pyridine (Py) as an extractant. The effects
of pH and concentration of TFAA and pyridine on the extraction have be
ep reported. Copper(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) give coloured compl
exes having maximum absorbances at 325, 315 and 328 nm respectively. T
he method is precise and reproducible and has been used for the determ
ination of copper(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) in environmental, pha
rmaceutical and alloy samples.
