N. Noda et al., A CASE OF BONE-MARROW RECURRENCE FROM GASTRIC-CARCINOMA AFTER A 9-YEAR DISEASE-FREE INTERVAL, Japanese Journal of Clinical Oncology, 26(6), 1996, pp. 472-475
We present a case of very fate and unusual recurrence of gastric cance
r. Nine years following total gastrectomy for gastric carcinoma, a 57-
year-old man presented with disseminated intravascular coagulation ass
ociated with hone marrow recurrence. The primary tumor was a signet ri
ng cell carcinoma invading the subserosal layer with lymph node metast
asis. The patient wits treated with sequential administration of metho
trexate and 5-fluorouracil and went into remission, After treatment, h
e survived 10 months. Autopsy revealed diffuse bone marrow infiltratio
n and distant lymph node metastasis with signet ring carcinoma cells.
