D. Medhi et al., PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF A DIGITAL LINK WITH HETEROGENEOUS MULTISLOT TRAFFIC, IEEE transactions on communications, 43(2-4), 1995, pp. 968-976
We present a unified model to compute various performance measures whe
n Poissonian and non-Poissonian (renewal) multi-slot traffic streams a
re offered to a digital link in a (double) loss system. We represent t
he non-Poissonian arrival process by a matrix-exponential distribution
, requiring only that the inter-arrival distribution has a rational La
place transform. Several distributions are considered as the non-Poiss
onian traffic. The resulting model uses matrix algebraic techniques on
ly, thus not requiring any complex and/or tedious transform techniques
. We also incorporate various control policies in our modeling framewo
rk using acceptance functions. Through our computational studies, we c
onclude that the second and the third moments of the non-Poissonian tr
affic have significant impact on various performance measures.
