The World-Wide Web has already been demonstrated to be an excellent me
chanism for the distribution of educational resources. However, curren
t browsers do not provide much support for users navigating the Web. T
his is particularly true in cases where users follow a link from a pre
viously prepared ''trail'' and then experience difficulties in returni
ng to the point where they left. This paper describes a guided tour me
chanism, known as Footsteps, which has been developed in an attempt to
solve this problem.
