Adolescents' perceived levels of intimacy with their mother, father, a
nd close friend were examined as a function of demographic, family and
school, and psychological variables. Students with same-sex friends a
nd greater interest in school reported greater intimacy with their mot
hers. Students with higher self-esteem, lower depression, and lower ri
sk-taking scores reported greater intimacy with their mothers and fath
ers. The greatest number of relationships with positive variables invo
lved intimacy with mothers.
