Abstract
Free radical damage induced during alcohol metabolism, disturbances to the immune system and to neurotransmission are reviewed. Neurochemica l studies of opioids and stimulants are also outlined. Further areas o f consideration are toxicity from 'ecstasy' and anabolic steroids and the effects of prenatal exposure to cocaine and caffeine.
