H. Vandevelde et al., EFFECT OF CABLE AND SYSTEM PARAMETERS ON PASSBAND ADSL PERFORMANCE, IEEE transactions on communications, 43(2-4), 1995, pp. 1248-1251
In this paper we investigate the bit error rate (BER) performance of a
passband single-carrier QAM transceiver for Asymmetric Digital Subscr
iber Lines (ADSL), with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and self
far end crosstalk (FEXT) as the main disturbances. The major differenc
e with previous contributions on ADSL performance is that we present a
simple approximate analytical expression for the signal to noise rati
o (SNR) margin, which clearly shows the effect of various cable and sy
stem parameters (such as loop length, transmit power, QAM constellatio
n size, bit rate, ...) on ADSL performance. From this expression, we d
etermine the optimum constellation size and the maximum achievable bit
rate as a function of the loop length.
