L. Olsen et al., UN UNUSUAL CASE OF HEMANGIOMA OF THE LEFT DIAPHRAGM IN A CHILD - SUCCESSFUL USE OF LYODURA-S FOR REPAIR OF THE DIAPHRAGMATIC DEFECT, Pediatric surgery international, 10(4), 1995, pp. 259-260
Primary hemangioma of the diaphragm is an extremely rare disease in ch
ildhood. We have treated a 3-year-old boy who had a 3-month history of
superficial vein dilatation in the left thorax and abdomen. Comprehen
sive clinical and radiologic investigations revealed a left-sided vasc
ular tumor. The upper part was intrathoracic, but the exact extension
could not be determined. At operation a large, mainly intradiaphragmat
ic hemangioma of the left diaphragm was found. The tumor was excised,
and the large defect produced was successfully closed with Lyodura S.
Histopathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of a benign hemang
ioma. Now, 4 1/2 years postoperatively, the boy is completely healthy
and the function of the diaphragm is entirely normal.
