We present a mechanism to excite intersubband transitions at normal in
cidence in quantum wells with a magnetic field applied parallel to the
two-dimensional electron gas. In the Voigt configuration the light po
larization perpendicular to the magnetic field induces intersubband tr
ansitions whose oscillator strength is proportional to the square of t
he field. This dependence allows us to determine experimentally the in
tersubband matrix elements with great accuracy.
