We analyze electroproduction of phi-meson from a proton within a uud-s
(s) over bar cluster model as a probe of the strangeness content of t
he proton. Our consideration is based on the relativistic harmonic osc
illator quark model which takes into account the Lorentz-contraction e
ffect of the hadron wave functions. We show that the knockout mechanis
ms are comparable to the vector-meson-dominance model of diffractive p
roduction if only (1-2)% strange quark admixture is assumed. The uud-
and s (s) over bar-knockout cross sections have a qualitatively differ
ent dependence on the four-momentum transfer squared to the proton and
may be distinguished experimentally.
