Abstract
The effect of preliminary mechanical activation of a batch in a centri fugal planetary mill on the thermal effect and burning velocity of com pacts during SHS-compaction of multicomponent cermet SHTM-5 was invest igated. The physical, mechanical, and service properties of the specim ens obtained were investigated. It is shown that preliminary mechanica l activation leads to an increase of the thermal effect of the formati on of titanium carbide and makes it possible to increase the burning v elocity of compacts, to increase the structural and chemical homogenei ty of the synthesis products, to achieve a high uniformity of the dist ribution of the precipitation-hardening and allaying additives, and, a s a consequence, to improve the service properties of the carbide.
