Synthesis of benzimidazole and ($) over bar 4 (Imidazole 1-yl) acetoph
enone complexes derived from cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), palla
dium(II) and platinum(IV) salts were carried out. The elemental analys
es suggest the formation of 1:2 and 1.4 stoichiometries (M:L). Electro
nic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements are used to infer
the structures. The i.r. spectra of the ligands and their complexes a
re used to identify the type of bonding. Thermal analysis and electric
al conductivity measurements were investigated in the temperature rang
e 30-250 degrees C. The results indicate slight semiconducting propert
ies.
