The effects of inoculation with the plant growth-promoting rhizobacter
ium Azospirillum brasilense Cd on germination and growth of oak (Querc
us ithaburensis Decaisne) seedlings were investigated in the nursery.
An inoculum concentration of 10(7) colony forming units per plant of A
. brasilense caused significant increases in seedling root surface are
a, root dry weight, foliage and shoot dry weight 30 days after inocula
tion. Inoculation of oak seedlings with A. brasilense is therefore sug
gested for improving the establishment, growth and development of oak
seedlings under nursery conditions.
