Abstract
We review the key ingredients of our current theoretical formulation o f spin-dependent transport in magnetic layered and granular solids. Th e meaning of effective spin-dependent internal electric fields is give n, and the shortcomings of current approaches are signaled. The essent ial features of realistic model calculations of conduction in magnetic ally inhomogeneous systems are discussed.
