The applications of membrane extraction disks for the off-line and on-
line analyses of contaminants in waters, soils and air, including thei
r use in pharmaceutical and toxicological analyses, are reviewed. The
general scheme of the extraction procedure is discussed and recoveries
of the analytes for a great number of applications are assessed. Supe
rcritical-fluid extraction of the disks, stability of the adsorbed com
pounds on the disks and the use of different filters and filter aids t
ogether with the extraction disks are also discussed.
