Abstract
Immunofluorescence studies of rat brain sections demonstrated an exclu sive colocalization of the gluconeogenic key enzyme fructose-1,6-bisph osphatase (FBPase) with the astroglial marker glial fibrillary acidic protein, indicating FBPase in brain as an astrocyte-specific enzyme. T his conclusion was supported by the presence of FBPase activity in ast roglia-rich but not neuron-rich primary cultures derived from rat brai n.
