Abstract
The one-pot conversion of a mercaptan and an aryl methanesulfonate int o a trithioorthoformate is described. The intermediacy of a sulfide-su lfonate ester is firmly established. Experimental and computational re sults permit the formulation of a possible pathway for the formation o f the intermediate sulfide-sulfonate ester.
