The finite element formulation for three-dimensional (3-D) chirowavegu
ides cannot be applied to 2-D ones because all components of the elect
romagnetic field in chiral media, even if a 2-D system is considered,
are coupled. In this paper, the finite element formulation is describe
d for the analysis of 2-D chirowaveguides. To show the validity of the
present formulation, numerical results are shown for homogeneous chir
owaveguides and are compared with exact solutions. Furthermore, to dem
onstrate the applicability of the present approach, chirowaveguides wi
th graded chirality admittance profiles are investigated.
