R. Akers et al., A TEST OF CP-INVARIANCE IN Z0-]TAU(-) USING OPTIMAL OBSERVABLES()TAU(), Zeitschrift fur Physik. C, Particles and fields, 66(1-2), 1995, pp. 31-44
Using 27 490 Z0 --> tau+tau- decays, accumulated in 1991, 1992 and 199
3 with the OPAL detector at LEP, a direct test of CP-invariance in the
neutral current reaction e+e- --> tau+tau- is performed by measuring
CP-odd observables which are proportional to the weak dipole moment of
the tau-lepton. A new method based on optimal CP-odd observables cons
tructed from the tau flight and spin directions is employed. More sens
itive measurements of the real and, for the first time, the imaginary
part of the weak dipole moment with highest possible signal to noise r
atio are obtained. No evidence for a non-zero expectation value of the
considered observables and hence for CP-violation is observed. An upp
er limit on the weak dipole moment of \Re(d(tau)omega)\ < 7.8 x 10(-18
) e.cm and \Im(d(tau)omega)\ < 4.5 x 10(-17) e.cm with 95% confidence
level is obtained.
