Abstract
Investigations on NaCl-Al2O3 indicate that the enhanced ionic conducti on in these composites occurs through the migration of Na+ ion vacanci es which are also the dominant charge carriers in pure matrix phase (N aCl). The calculated values of ionic conductivity, using Maier's space charge theory and the known mobility data of Na+ ion vacancies, agree quite well with the experimental values. The conductivity vs particle size behavior is also found to be consistent with the above theory.
