Abstract
The factors that allow the synthesis of YBa2Cu4O8 at low oxygen pressu res are discussed. The importance of having a homogeneous distribution of initial reacting powders to increase the reaction speed and purity of the final product is shown. Compounds with partial and total subst itution of yttrium by thulium are also considered.
