S. Sprecher et al., DOMAINS OF EXPRESSIVE INTERACTION IN INTIMATE-RELATIONSHIPS - ASSOCIATIONS WITH SATISFACTION AND COMMITMENT, Family relations, 44(2), 1995, pp. 203-210
The major purpose of this investigation was to examine the relative im
portance of three domains of expressive interaction-companionship, sex
ual expression, and supportive communication-in predicting relationshi
p satisfaction and commitment. This issue was examined with data colle
cted from both partners of 94 married or committed (engaged or cohabit
ing) couples. Results indicated that all three domains of expressive i
nteraction were significantly related to relationship satisfaction and
commitment and that supportive communication had the strongest associ
ation with satisfaction and commitment.
